The village of Kiltarlity is located approximately twelve miles or twenty minutes by car, to the west of the city of Inverness and only two and a half miles south of Beauly. It has a population of under a thousand people, and a local primary school, Tomnacross Primary. Secondary education is provided at Charleston Academy in Inverness and there is a school bus service to and from the village. Lovat Shinty Club play in the village. Kiltarlity has several amenities, including a post office which includes a village store and a small family run cafe, Brockie's Lodge (a former hotel, now bar), and a village hall. Close to the village are Lovat Castle and the Belladrum Estate, which hosts the Tartan Heart music festival annually.
