About Evanton:

Evanton is a large, picturesque village in Easter Ross, Highland. It has around 1500 residents.  The current village was founded in the early nineteenth century by Alexander Fraser, who named it after his son Evan. The core of the village buildings date from the Victorian era. The village has a few streets laid out in a planned manner around the main street, Balconie Street (B817).  Evanton has several tourist attractions, including the Fyrish monument, the Black Rock Gorge and the ruined church of Kiltearn, as well as other inspiring natural, historical and archaeological attractions.  In the surrounding area there are 2 churches, a primary school, the high schools are in Dingwall and Alness. It has a well-stocked co-op and post-office, hotel, bus stop and ATM.  Employment: The oil industry is not as big an employer as it has been in the past, but other locally significant industries such as forestry and tourism now play an important and increasing role in the local economy. It has been described as a "commuting settlement" as a significant amount of the residents’ work in the surrounding area. Public facilities include Evanton Sports Centre, which lays on sporting activities such as badminton, basketball, football, and tennis.
