East Calder

East Calder is an expanding village and is located close to commuter links to Edinburgh and Glasgow via the A71 and M8; a good bus service and a local train station at Kirknewton and Edinburgh airport is also within easy reach. The village has its own nursery and primary schools and there is a bus service to the high school at West Calder. There is a leisure centre and lots of local amenities, including health centre, community hall, church, library, post office, a Tesco local, 2 Co-op mini supermarkets, hairdressers, local pub and takeaways. Entrance to the Almondell and Calderwood country park provides fabulous walks.

Mid Calder

Mid Calder is a popular village, ideally placed for the commuter. It has easy access to the A71 and Edinburgh bypass and the M8 and M9 motorway network. The closest railway links are at Kirknewton or Livingston South with Uphall Station and Livingston North stations a short drive away. Edinburgh Airport is 10 miles away. A regular bus service operates to Edinburgh and Livingston from the village. The local amenities include a church, a village shop, hairdressers, Post Office, a restaurant, takeaways, a community hall and public houses, as well as a play park. There is a highly acclaimed nursery and primary school and the catchment secondary school is at West Calder High. The adjacent village of East Calder provides a health centre, library and a sports complex. Livingston town centre is a short drive away which has a more extensive range of shopping and facilities.

Kirknewton

Kirknewton is a semi-rural conservation village, ideally placed for the commuter. It is about 5 miles from the Edinburgh bypass and South Gyle and 3 miles from Livingston town centre. There is also easy access to the A71, M8 and M9 motorway network, with Edinburgh Airport about 7 miles away. The village benefits from a railway station, which provides trains to Glasgow and Edinburgh and a regular bus service operates to Livingston and Edinburgh. The local amenities include a village shop, a pharmacy, a takeaway and a local pub as well as a playground and park. The new community hall provides for the local community. Schooling is at Kirknewton nursery and primary school with a school bus service transporting secondary school pupils to the highly regarded Balerno High School on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

West Calder

West Calder offers a good range of local shops to cater for everyday requirements; a Co-op supermarket, a post office, restaurants, takeaways, library, community hall with leisure centre and a new health centre with pharmacy. West Calder is also well placed for the commuter with road links via the A71 and M8 motorway network to Edinburgh and Glasgow both of which offer International Airports. There is a local train station at West Calder which operates regular services to both Edinburgh and Glasgow. There is an excellent bus service that also links West Calder with Edinburgh. Schooling is at the local nursery and primary school and a bus service operates to the West Calder High School.

Things to do in West Lothian

There are lots of things to do in West Lothian whether you like the shoppers’ heaven of The Centre and the Livingston Designer Outlet or the Indoor entertainment of The Vue Cinema complex, ten pin bowling and the bars and clubs. The outdoor lifestyle can be enjoyed with numerous country parks including Almondell, Beecraigs and Polkemmet. The Union Canal runs through West Lothian and there are many golf clubs including Deerpark Golf and Country Club, Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club or the smaller golf courses including Harburn Golf Club and Bathgate Golf Club. There is a fantastic out door skate park and lots of great walks and cycle routes so you are never stuck for something to do.
